Alliance of Valiant Arms (AVA) is part of the free to play FPS genre and has been online in North America since 2009. The game is one of the better looking free to play shooters around and still manages to deliver this with reasonably low system requirements.

In AVA players follow the war between the EU and the NRF which provides a simple backdrop to the many engagements that the player will participate in. With the power of the Unreal 3 engine behind it AVA is definitely a visually crisp experience with fluid character models that most games in the free to play FPS space aren’t currently offering.

On top of the graphics you’ll find great game modes and a level of customisation that keeps you coming back to kill some time. This level of customisation mostly comes from the three classes which you can freely swap between based on the circumstances of the battle. Each of the three classes (point man, sniper and rifle man) have their own skills to unlock and strengths in combat so you can choose a class that resonates with your playstyle.

Further customisation of your character can be achieved by unlocking weapons which come in a variety of types and featuring their own attributes. Weapons are unlocked with the in game currency which is earned along with experience (with translates into ranks) for playing the game.

Earning your credits and experience is always fun in AVA thanks to the large number of game modes that players can join across a good variety of maps. Players can join nearly a dozen different game modes with plenty of different experiences available.

This includes faster paced deathmatch modes and more strategic based bomb planting or escort missions. Alliance of Valiant Arms even has some co-op experiences where players can battle it out against bots which is a nice touch if you find yourself needing to touch up on your FPS skills.

  • A free to play first person shooter.
  • Huge list of game modes to experience including some co-op vs AI options.
  • Class options and weapon variety let you create a character for your playstyle.
  • Maps offer good variety to keep you entertained.
  • Clans and other social features make it a great game to play with friends.
