Codemon will have you running around your house to scan every barcode you can find. The game is free to play on Android devices and combines Pokemon style gameplay with barcode scanning to move the monster finding game aspects into the real world.
The game definitely isn’t the first of its kind with many devices (Scannerz, Barcode Battler) attempting to combine barcode scanning and monsters in previous decades with good success. Codemon is one of those games that could easily have flopped like so many others before it but thankfully this isn’t the case. The rating on the store reflects a similar picture holding a steady rating of 4 stars.
The game process is simple enough, you’ll scan barcodes to find monsters (called Codemons), spells and auras. You can re-scan barcodes once every 24 hours so if you find a particular barcode that has something powerful you can use it again the next day.
Spells are used to help you turn the tide of battle while using auras that you find can help you improve the power of your Codemons. Once you are happy with your team you can take to the Codiesum and battle others to prove your strength or focus on completing the quest challenges.
Players don’t actually have any control over the battles and they simply play out by themselves. So this means your battle tactics and strategy will be focused more on using auras and spells correctly.
One of the best features of Codemons though is the market, there is nothing more frustrating than not being able to find a certain monster and the marketplace makes it possible to sell monsters that you capture and purchase the Codemons that elude you. Overall you’ll expect to run into over 60 Codemon races with each monster having their own epic version which is harder to find.
- Scan barcodes to find monsters, auras and spells.
- Over 60 Codemon to collect and epic versions.
- Battle others in the Codiesum.
- Easy to pick up and play.
- Simple idea that’s been done before but well-polished.
