Combat Arms is a free to play shooter that delivers a fast paced multiplayer experience with plenty of game modes and weapons for players. The game launched in 2008 and is published by Nexon.

The gameplay on offer in Combat Arms is in line with most other titles in the genre but manages to deliver it with much lower requirements than its competitors which makes it perfect for people stuck on an older computer or even a laptop. Of course this comes with a drop in the visual quality compared to alternatives but it’s a nice balance.

The most important (and attractive) element to Combat Arms though is the selection of game modes available to the player which is well ahead of most other free alternatives. All the usual options are there from search and destroy to team deathmatch and free for all. However, Combat Arms also has a number of more unique options from quarantine where players fight off the infected to arms race that has you advancing through over a dozen weapons as you gain kills.

The maps are as equally as impressive with over 40 to choose from. Thanks to the huge community of gamers that play Combat Arms it isn’t hard to get a game in your favourite mode and map combination. It’s easy to jump right into the community as well with a friends list and even clans supporting communication with friends or allowing you to make new ones.

Combat Arms also includes rankings, abilities and inventory options to round out the overall experience. If you’ve played a modern day first person shooter before then you’ll be familiar with this system that has players awarded with experience for playing which then unlocks new possibilities for the player.

Combat Arms is one of the better free to play shooters around so if you are on a tight budget or need a game that doesn’t require a latest generation computer you’ll be set.

Summary:

  • A free to play shooter published by Nexon.
  • Huge number of game modes for players so there is something for everyone.
  • Lots of different maps with good environment variety.
  • Gain ranks, use abilities and customise your inventory.
  • Solid social support for friends and clans.

The only bad thing about this game are the hackers. I’ve played this game for two years and had stopped about 5-6 months ago. The hackers became too much. Also if you want to play decently, purchase items. You can easily work your way up, but the extra merch helps too.

I would advise not to play this game unless you wish to pay $15-30+ for a permanent gun. You can buy guns for temporary (1 day, 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days) using their game currency. You can buy that gun that is “better” by adding a few little colors to it and increasing the stats of the gun by a lot. The game won’t do anything about the hackers, people use hacks you can get for free and people say it works fine. Guns aren’t permanent until pay IRL $ or wait for a certain time of the year for expensive ones with in game currency. Which they aren’t the best guns, less better like normal games.
