Discovery is a block based building game available on Xbox, iOS and Android. The game includes a free version (Discovery Lite) allowing you to try the game before committing to a purchase.

In its current state Discovery is just a creative based experience but does have a multiplayer update in the back of the developer’s mind (although no date has been given). Don’t let this turn you off though as Discovery has a number of features that make it more appealing then similar games.

The textures of Discovery are the first thing that is sure to attract gamers. With all the Minecraft clones around these days developers often forget that there is a difference between nicely textured blocks and horrible looking ones. Thankfully Discovery went the way of impressive textures which are found across all blocks in the game world.

The animations in the Discovery also enhances the experience, it is the small touches that really separate this game from others in the genre. Animations include breaking blocks into little pieces, torches that give off smoke, TNT explosions and the amazing day/night transition which is simply a joy to watch.

Since Discovery is a creative only game you will spend all your time building structures. Discovery helps the building process with a few handy features which includes no height limit (at least not one that will matter), teleportation and slopes which opens up a lot of design potential. Discovery also provides all the tools you need to blow them up if you are a fan of destroying your creations.

I really enjoyed my time with Discovery and the scores across the number of platforms speak for themselves (averaging around 4 stars). If you want a building game but aren’t sure which one to pick then put Discovery on your short list.

  • Creative only but more planned features.
  • Available on Xbox, iOS and Android.
  • Impressive textures and day/night cycle effects.
  • Lots of animations add to the experience.
  • Tools to help you build with ease such as slopes and teleportation.
