Exploration is a game that is heavily inspired by Minecraft and is available on your iOS device. The game is a paid to play game but does include a lite version which is available for free but does not allow you to save or load your games.
Exploration is one of the many creative building games like Minecraft, which lets you run wild with nearly 100 block types as you build, transform and explore the game world around you. You’ll spawn facing two blocks of stone which helps to indicate your spawn point and gives you a point of reference in the game world right from the start.
Players have plenty of options to alter the random game world they generate. You can choose from generating an Earth world (complete with trees, mountains, lakes and all sorts of other biomes), a flat world which is completely flat and a unique floating blocks terrain that randomly places floating blocks. Each of these terrain options allows you to customise it further by altering the map size, the ground level and the number of floating blocks.
Once you’ve choose your desired game world you’ll be able to easily add and delete blocks around you using the add and delete buttons at the top of the screen. The controls in general are of a high quality in Exploration and always feel responsive, you’ll never get frustrated with them like you might with other games in the genre.
The one thing that does let Exploration down though is the ability to only have one block type active at a time. To change your current block you’ll have to go into the menu and scroll through the large list of blocks to find what you are looking for. If you generally build large creations with a single block type though you won’t even mind this system as it means more room on your screen.
Overall Exploration doesn’t really do anything special but it does everything in a well-polished manner and gives you all the tools you need to be creative.
- A creative game full of options.
- Large number of block types to use.
- Three terrain types to randomly generate.
- Simple and responsive controls.
- Paid app with a free lite version available (does not allow world saves).
