Collect, evolve and battle hundreds of monsters in the fast paced Monster Squad for iOS and Android, with simple gameplay that streamlines the monster capture RPG it’s easy to get hooked on the action that Monster Squad brings to the table.

Similar to other offerings on the mobile platforms Monster Squad splits your journey across several islands as you embark on a long journey to capture and battle the 500 plus monsters on offer. The setting, dialogue and monsters are all fairly well-designed with no real issues in the core game mechanics.

The Monster Squad formula shouldn’t be a surprise or involve much learning curve for most gamers. You’ll start with a basic monster, begin capturing monsters that you encounter and eventually develop your team of star fighters. Players can put together a team of 5 from the various monsters which fall into 4 simple categories (fire, earth, water and neutral).

Actual battles are fairly fast paced without much room for strategy during the campaign though the strategy depth is there in the Arena (PvP) battles. Players will control their main monster and can attack, heal or buff their team. Each action will require a certain number of energy points which recharge quickly in battle.

The remaining monsters in your squad can be automated and will complete whichever action you set for them as they have enough energy. While this simplifies the game significantly it does take away some of what makes monster capture games so great.

The biggest issue that drags down the Monster Squad experience is the free to play setup, it’s hard to forget you’re playing a free to play game with constant reminders to make in app purchases, especially if you want to get the very best available monsters. While this isn’t any different from other monster RPGs on mobile, Monster Squad just seems that little extra pushy.

Monster Squad is a decent monster capture game for short mobile sessions but it’s a long way from one of the best in this space.

Summary:

  • Capture over 500 monsters.
  • Simplified combat is fast paced and simple to master.
  • Battle friends in the PvP Arena.
  • Evolve your monsters to boosts their stats.
  • For iOS and Android.
