Shadow Kings is the newest strategy game to be developed by GoodGame Studios, with colourful graphics and a simple to follow UI it’s their best game yet and promises to keep you entertained (and planning your next move) for hours to come.
Set in a world where the powerful Orc army has destroyed the great city of the elves and dwarves already it falls to the last few settlements of the humans to restore order to this land in shadow. Not only will you have to deal with pesky Orcs though you’ll also need to contend with other human settlements.
Core gameplay is similar to Goodgame’s other popular strategy game, Empire with players taking their small settlement and transforming it into an economic and military powerhouse within the game. Players can choose to tackle this adventure solo or join an alliance to conquer the lands of Shadow Kings.
On the economic side of things you’ll have to manage the three core resources of wood, stone and food by building the necessary resource generating buildings and upgrading them. You’ll also have to manage your tax income from your citizens and even their happiness to boost productivity which can really give you an edge with proper management.
Shadow Kings does a superb job of giving you all the data you need to make these decisions allowing any min-max gamer to run wild analysing the numbers to make sure they’re operating their kingdom at maximum efficiency.
When it comes to combat you’ll find the level of options equally impressive with players having Orc camps to attack, other players and even outposts to capture which can provide significant resource advantages if you can hold onto them. Unlike other games where you’ll simple send your troops into battle and rely on raw numbers Shadow Kings gives you options over what troops you’ll send, the equipment they’ll take and which area of the enemy they will attack (left flank, front, right flank or palace).
The level of polish in the design of Shadow Kings makes it well worth your time if you’re a fan of online strategy gameplay.
