War Commander is another one of the popular strategy games to come from Kixeye (they are also responsible for Vega Conflict). The game has been around since 2011 and focuses on a war like setting that has man fighting over what is left of the Earth’s resources.

The game combines real time strategy elements with the MMORTS genre making it more involved and less of a waiting game than similar options in this genre. With options to repair units, the ability to move them around individually and a large number of troop types you’ll get plenty of enjoyment out of War Commander.

Like any MMORTS you’re job starts around your base, with plenty of different buildings there is no shortage of decisions to be made here. It’s important to consider the placement of your resource generating buildings and defences in particular to ensure you’re well protected for any attack that comes your way.

War Commander definitely focuses on the fighting elements though so you won’t have to sit around for hours waiting for your base to be completed. Combat revolves around platoons which can be put together with over two dozen troop types (infantry, vehicles, aircraft and even some fun special units). By carefully creating your platoons and manoeuvring them in battle it’s easy for a skilled player to rise the ranks quickly. This is one of the few MMORTS games out there that is about more than just numbers.

To keep you hooked you’ll also find regular events run by Kixeye, with some impressive rewards it’s a game that definitely appreciates its active players and you never feel like just another player. This also means that the turnover rate for players is quite low so the community is always growing and you won’t be losing allies constantly as they stop playing.

War Commander might be in a saturated genre but it easily stands above the rest with its focus on real time combat that actually gives you control of the result in each battle. With plenty of achievements to chase, friends to make (100,000+ players online during peak times) and multiple strategies available it’s one of the best in the genre.

Summary:

  • A MMORTS focusing on real time combat.
  • Put together your platoons and lead them to victory with strategic choices.
  • Current era war setting.
  • Plenty of variety in buildings and unit types.
  • Huge community and great support for friends, clans and rankings.

i played this game avidly for 3 years … but sadly kix-eye doesnt much care for its players or their views & its loseing its players because of this … this game has been plagued with bugs that are never fixed cheats & hackers since 2011 … which is very sad because it was a great game

This game sucks so badly. Back in 2012 when I started the game on Facebook, it was good and easy to learn. Unfortunately, Kixeye fixed what didn’t need to be broken and now the game blows with its frustrating difficulty, confusing game play and overpowered units that make battles unfair. Do yourself a favor and play something else like Command & Conquer if you want a fun experience. I pray that this game dies one day and the creators get fired.
