Soda Dungeon 1 & Soda Dungeon 2 Best Pet Guide

Recruit the best pets in both Soda Dungeon 1 and Soda Dungeon 2 with this guide to the casual soda drinking RPG series. While the pet mechanic has some similarities across the current two titles in the Soda Dungeon franchise the available pets and their associated buffs are different with both being explored below for the respective game you’re currently progressing through. In regards to game progression pets appear at slightly different stages of progression with Soda Dungeon 1 pets are introduced in mid to late stages of the overall game while Soda Dungeon 2 introduces them slightly earlier into your experience.

Regardless of when they are unlocked like any mechanic in a role playing game with idle themes good optimisation of every mechanic is critical to push to the highest levels, bosses and dimensions that the Soda Dungeons games offer and pets are no exception while working alongside other mechanics like the best Soda Dungeon relics. Knowing the best pets can allow players to save on gold costs by only unlocking pets they expect to use while also helping them push to new dungeon levels through the benefits they provide to your party members.

In addition to my personal recommendations for the best pets in each title I also include some game specific overview information which includes how to unlock pets in the first place and other key information on using these mechanics. Given this best pet guide includes information and images of all pets players should expect full spoilers for the pets mechanic in both Soda Dungeon 1 and Soda Dungeon 2 below. Readers can move to their preferred Soda Dungeon game information with the table of contents below.

Soda Dungeon 1 Pets Overview

In the original Soda Dungeon the pets mechanic works as follows:

  • Pets are unlocked by purchasing the stables that are available in the VIP upgrade tab of the Tavern Owner for 500k gold. Once unlocked players can buy and purchase pets from this small building that sits in front of the Tavern.
  • Players can only equip one pet a time.
  • Each pet boosts a different statistic that scales with its pet level.
  • Pets gain levels automatically based on the number of battles they participate in with a maximum level of 6.
  • Pet level ups occur at 100 battles, 150 battles, 250 battles, 500 battles and 1,500 battles.

With the above in mind this puts pets in Soda Dungeon 1 definitively in the mid to late game stages of progression as accumulating this amount of gold can take some time and while it might be tempting to push for them as early as dimension 1 as you start pushing towards level 150 to 200 where individual dungeon runs can easily amass 50k gold the actual pet costs are all in the millions so do factor that in before you decide to push for it. That being said given the literal hundreds of battles required to level pets the earlier they are unlocked the earlier you can start to accumulate their bonuses with players generally want to focus on only one or two pets for levelling up.

The pets in Soda Dungeon 1 are as follows:

Soda Dungeon 1 Best Pets

The following is the recommended order I would use pets in the original Soda Dungeon to ensure you are using the best pets at all times to help your progression:

  1. The best starting pet option is Robbie (for Android players) or Ray given these are both available for free. Robbie is the stronger of the two given it gives a slight increase to item find that can help you equip your heroes with better equipment while Ray is primarily just because we have no other options at this stage and the MP can give your magical heroes an extra powerful attack so is better than nothing. If you are not playing on Android but have an Android device available players can activate Robbie by using the upload save file feature to make Robbie available to their save file and given it’s the best free pet in Soda Dungeon is worth obtaining.
  2. The first pet players should purchase is Jenny the giraffe looking pet that provides an increase to gold earned which is nearly universally useful to players given gold is a key currency. This will increase the speed at which players progress through the game and helps you invest into other game mechanics. Eventually as players level up their relics and progress through the game the usefulness of Jenny will fall away, particularly when you reach the Warrior Dimension (WD) and start to have each monster drop 1 billion gold but that is a long way away yet.
  3. Once gold is not an issue players can swap to a damage focused pet which should be Steamy (for Steam players) or Charlie depending on your general team composition. Generally most teams will have a heavy magic element to their damage output so these pets are a priority if you prefer to run a high physical team composition then Norm is an alternative option. The percentage attack of Norm is better for physical attacker team compositions as Crespia does not scale and is easily outmatched by a relic (Vigor Swig) that provides the same boost and doesn’t have the same level limitations as pets.

Soda Dungeon 2 Pets Overview

Pets in Soda Dungeon 2 have a number of similarities to the original Soda Dungeon although there are a few changes to this mechanic which once again serves as an additional albeit small boost to your account progression. Given the design of the Soda Dungeon franchise even these small boosts need to be optimised and important choice that works alongside other game mechanics like relics and your general town upgrades. Overall players unlock the pet mechanic significantly earlier in Soda Dungeon 2 compared to the first game with pets having a smaller purchase cost and higher maximum potential with an increased maximum level.

the original Soda Dungeon the pets mechanic works as follows:

  • Pets are unlocked by building the Stables structure through the carpenter building which requires 5k gold, 10 wood and 2 carrots or alternatively 100 caps.
  • Pets can be purchased for their gold cost or 100 caps from the Stables.
  • Players can only equip one pet a time.
  • Each pet boosts a different statistic that scales with its pet level.
  • Pets gain levels automatically based on the number of battles they participate in with a maximum level of 8.
  • Pet level ups occur at 100 battles, 250 battles, 500 battles, 1,000 battles, 2,500 battles, 5,000 battles and 10,000 battles.

The pets in Soda Dungeon 2 are as follows:

Pet Name Stat Stat Value At Max Level (8) Purchase Cost (Gold)
soda-dungeon-2-pets-finnFinn % HP increase 8 Free
soda-dungeon-2-pets-pattyPatty % Status resist 8 500k
soda-dungeon-2-pets-spike-the-helihogSpike the Helihog % Damage reduction 8 500k

Soda Dungeon 2 Best Pets

The following is the recommended order I would use pets in Soda Dungeon 2 to ensure you are using the best pets at all times to help your progression:

  1. The best starting pet option in Soda Dungeon 2 is Finn which is because not only is this pet available for free the bonus health percentage may prove to be just enough to help players survive an attack they may not be able to otherwise. Where this does happen players will be able to reach an additional dungeon level or two that ultimately means more gold or items for the player to help progression.
  2. As players build up their gold supplies and are ready to purchase their next pet your best option is to grab Aurora as while they are on of the more expensive options at 1 million the essence find can help players through the early to mid game bottleneck for this resource. While Bandit can be somewhat tempting for the gold find boost it’s relatively small and player can potentially obtain almost equal gold gain benefit from simply using Finn or one of the late game pets below as you’ll be pushing higher level dungeons where gold return is high.
  3. The last pet that players will want to purchase and the ultimate end game pet choice in the Soda Dungeon sequel is either Cliff or Sly given the role they play in optimising end game party compositions. Similar to our free starting pet of Finn these two options boost your party survivability so that players can simply push further with their current stage of progression that means more resource. If players are unsure I suggest purchasing Cliff who is half the gold cost of Sly and also slightly more useful in non end game party compositions through the damage reduction. For end game you’ll utilise Cliff in damage reduction teams (darkmages) and use Sly in evade focused teams (blademasters).
