Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Last Updated on

  • Enjoyable and funny cut scenes – Interesting gameplay – Multiple endings
  • Limited characters can be brought into battle

Welcome to the Netherworld! The world that Disgaea takes place in. Follow the narcissistic protagonist Prince Laharl in this humour filled RPG adventure.

Laharl took a nap that unexpectedly lasted two years, and has been awakened by his loyal vassal and fellow protagonist Etna to find that his father, King Krichevskoy, has passed away.

Instead of mourning for his father, Laharl rejoices, excited to rule the Netherworld. Unfortunately, he is informed that in his absence, many other demons have been battling for the role of King. As Laharl creates new characters to join his party, he has to take on the other demons who yearn for his throne.

Battles are turn based and combine a unique combo element which is activated when certain characters are placed side by side. There are also Geo Panels in battle which are colored panels on the floor. They can increase or decrease stats of both you and the enemy, and can only be removed by destroying the respective Geo Symbol that can be found somewhere in the same map.

Disgaea has a few other unique features under its belt including the way new maps are unlocked, the option to improve your castle and the ability to create new characters by approaching the Dark Assembly with a proposal. Levelling up characters is also handled in a less than standard way with individual characters needing to fight senators to achieve a level up.

All in all, Disgaea is a game worth trying if you enjoy strategic turn-by-turn games. It has been received very well by critics and is sure to make you laugh with their funny conversations. The game can be replayed many times as there are many possible endings, depending on how you play the game. There is even a “joke” ending that is a result of you failing to defeat the first boss in Episode One!

  • Features new concepts like Geo Panels.
  • Humour filled conversations.
  • Multiple endings.
  • Strategic turn by turn RPG.
  • Plenty of new maps and monsters await you.
