Dots: A Game About Connecting is as simple as it comes in terms of matching games. The game is free for iOS and Android and is quite possible the most minimalistic game on the app stores (this is part of the overall charm).

Dots is simple in design and presentation and after a brief tutorial that introduces you to the concept you’ll be thrown into the games main menu. From here you can select which mode you want to play which includes a timed mode, moves mode and endless mode. In the timed mode you’ll have 60 seconds to connect as many dots as possible while the moves mode gives you only 30 moves to maximise your score.

Gameplay in Dots revolves around a 6×7 board filled with different coloured dots (red, green, purple, blue and yellow). In order to remove dots from the screen players must connect a minimum of two dots of the same colour together. You’ll get a higher score and a much nicer sound effect for connections that use more dots compared to a smaller amount.

At the completion of each round you’ll have the option to share your score with Twitter or Facebook to show off your best performances to friends. Dots will also show you the top scores for the current week and all time so you can compare yourself to everyone else that is playing and see just how far off the pace you are.

After each game players will also gain the game currency which can be used to purchase various power ups. This includes the time stop power up which will either stop time for 5 seconds or give you 5 extra moves depending on the mode and are limited to a one time use per game. Players can also buy a shrinker or expander power up which will either remove a single dot from the game board or an entire colour.

Dots is simple, addicting and just plain old fun with the score boards and power up options this is a definite must play for fans of the puzzle matching genre or casual gamers looking for a new game.

Summary:

  • Simple and charming gameplay.
  • Great sound effects that encourage you to make better matches.
  • Several game modes keeps the game interesting.
  • Compare yourself to friends and others.
  • Use power ups to gain an extra edge.
