Fire Emblem Heroes

Good
  • Characters from across the franchise – Still Fire Emblem at the core gameplay
Bad
  • Doesn't escape free to play title issues (pay for a strong team due to low drop rates)

Bringing the popular franchise to mobile with Fire Emblem Heroes, a free to play variant of the highly acclaimed franchise. Drawing characters from the entire lore of the Fire Emblem series it’s a great homage to fans but friendly enough for newcomers to thoroughly enjoy the experience too.

The setting of Fire Emblem Heroes focuses in on the way between the Askr and Embla nations. Players assist the Askra kingdom and pair up with their Order of Heroes to assist in the summoning and commanding of powerful units from the Fire Emblem games.

Despite the transition of the title into the free to play and mobile realms Fire Emblem Heroes still retains much of the tactical role playing game elements, although a somewhat trimmed down version. Based around a range of PvE game maps filled with different terrain, rewards and objectives players will command a unit of 4 heroes on a grid based map.

These heroes can have their own attributes based on class ranging from heavily armoured units with limited movement capabilities to flying ones that can surpass mountain terrain that other units cannot. Players take turns moving their units and engaging on the enemy before the opposing team will do the same. Attacking is limited to the area surrounding the character and if within range the enemy will respond with a counter attack.

Damage is mostly driven by the same rock-paper-scissors gameplay that drives the main franchise with colour typing of red, blue and green having advantages or disadvantages against another colour type. Accordingly much of the strategy involves moving your units appropriately to obtain favourable match-ups given that randomness is no longer part of the equation (compared to the core titles).

Fire Emblem Heroes focuses heavily on the PvE elements with story missions wrapped within chapters alongside rotating missions of challenge, a training tower and battles against the teams of other players controlled by the AI. All of this assists with players generating orbs to summon more and more heroes (from a potential list of 200) to increase the strength of your overall team.

Summary:

  • Recruit over 200 heroes from the Fire Emblem franchise.
  • Use tactical gameplay to overcome the vast PvE content.
  • Train and enhance your ideal team of characters.
  • Fight against the team of other players.
  • Fire Emblem franchise fans love now on mobile.
