Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a survival horror video game developed by Frictional Games and first released in 2010 for PC and later ported to console and mobile platforms along with an eventual sequel. Set in the past (1839) players awake to find themselves trapped within a dark castle with no memory of prior events. After finding a note from themselves players become aware of a shadowy presence that haunts the castle and their ultimate objective to descend into the castle depths to end the threat. Learning more with each step players must manage their sanity while avoiding the horrific monsters that appear with no way to fight back.

Played from a first person perspective players must explore, solve puzzles and survive which all use detailed object interaction to create a physical and physics based adventure. At the basic level this requires players to push and pull open doors with their gestures and only being able to store small items while larger objects must be moved across the world manually. While your character has the typical health bar players must also manage sanity which limits your ability to stay in the dark, witness the increasingly strange events or look directly at the horrors in the castles. Only light sources can restore this sanity although are limited to create a heightened sense of horror atmosphere.

The games like Amnesia on this page offer similar horror adventures where you'll explore a mysterious location, engage in physics based puzzles and manage your own sanity by avoiding threats rather than attacking them.
