37 Games Like XCOM

Games Like XCOM Our selection of games like XCOM features the best that the strategy genre has to offer in terms of turn based tactical role playing experiences.

This long running and popular strategy franchise originated in 1994 with X-COM: Enemy Unknown that blended management with turn based tactics. This cult classic was eventually recreated in 2012 with the release of XCOM: Enemy Unknown which received a similar high level of praise. In more recent times XCOM 2 was released in early 2016. The series has also dabbled in the likes of simulator, shooter, action and adventure but is generally known for its strategic elements.

While the story has changed throughout the various additions to the franchise the core adventure revolves around a world in the near future where alien invasions have already begun, are on the brink of occurring or have already been settled (with the aliens victorious).

Gameplay in the X-COM (revived as XCOM) franchise has also evolved over the life span of the franchise although at its core has maintained a focus on turn based tactical warfare. This requires players to command their elite military soldiers in turn based missions against aliens while developing their base of operations in between these missions.

The strategy games similar to XCOM listed on this page below aim to capture the intensity and depth of the franchise with a focus on other games with a warfare or space theme.
