Guardians of Middle Earth offers a MOBA experience for console gamers and is available on Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, making it one of the few console MOBA options.
The game draws heavily from the Lord of the Rings universe so it has particular appeal to fans of LOTR. Guardians of Middle Earth was released in December 2012 and you can grab a copy of the game through the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, Steam or through a retail copy.
All the standard game features of a MOBA game are present with players battling for the destruction of each other’s base in 5v5 combat while creep waves are sent forward to enemy towers on a regular basis. You’ll recognise many characters from the Lord of the Rings with popular characters including Sauron and Gandalf. The game doesn’t try to re-invent the genre or strive to offer a unique experience instead focusing on providing a solid console MOBA with a LOTR skin.
Guardians of Middle Earth includes AI game mode options so new players can hone their skills in a relaxed environment before taking the plunge into the multiplayer aspects of the game. This is also a great way to test the 20+ Lord of the Rings inspired characters (known as guardians in the game) with more being added regularly like most other big games in the genre.
The game also supports everything that you’ve come to expect from the other big MOBA games including stat tracking, leaderboards and an in game voice communication feature that allows you to easily communicate with your team.
Guardians of Middle Earth is great for both fans of the MOBA genre looking for a console solution or newcomers to the genre who are yet to hop on to the MOBA gaming craze. For a console MOBA experience Guardians of Middle Earth might be one of the few available but that doesn’t make it any less polished, providing the same experience as some of the popular PC MOBA games.
