Hatoful Boyfriend is a visual novel game which offers a wealth of replay ability as you explore the fantastic writing and character design that the unique world has to offer.

This unique world sees players in the middle of a dystopian future where birds have risen up as the dominant life forms after a deadly disease outbreak reduces the number of humans. During the humans attempt to stop the disease destroying humanity a counter virus was released which instead of having the desired effect granting birds a level of human intelligence.

Crazy background story aside the game sees players attending the bird only high school of St. PigeoNation’s Institute as the first human under the backdrop of opposing bird political views as to how humans should be dealt with in the new world (integrated or destroyed).

Your human female protagonist who comes from a cave and is an expert hunter gatherer has their choice of nearly a dozen love interests in her second year at the school. To help make the game a little less strange birds are paired with a human look a like (optional). All of these birds have various traits from popular to sporty, quiet and more just like any popular dating game.

Gameplay wise Hatoful Boyfriend has a similar flow to the many other visual novels around with players interacting with the game world while reading a vast array of dialogue as it appears across the bottom of the screen, providing background information, character dialogue and more. Branching plot lines are the speciality of Hatoful Boyfriend though with players making key choices to drive the story and which classes to attend which can increase one of three stats to obtain different endings.

Summary:

  • Unique setting unlike anything you’ve played before.
  • Date and romance nearly a dozen birds for over a dozen different endings.
  • Unlock a secret second game mode to explore more gameplay.
  • Vast branching pathways of story to indulge in.
  • Available on a wide range of platforms.
