Using the traditional 4 player maximum formula players command one of 34 characters from Sony game properties and a few third party games. Notable names include the Big Daddy from BioShock, Dante from Devil May Cry, Kratos from God of War and Nathan Drake from Uncharted amongst many others.

Your objective is to take the unique skills of these characters and knock out your opponent by building up AP orbs generated for attacks and randomly spawned around the game map. With enough AP obtained players can call on their characters Super Moves to remove an opponent and earn points.

These skirmishes can take place on any of the dozen or so arenas with environmental elements in each altering the balance of power and generally pulls inspiration from 2 game franchises for the setting. In addition to map hazards items play a pivotal role in controlling the match, spawning randomly and providing players with an extra source of damage or a way to steal AP from others.

For the times where friends and other players are in short supply or you just want to practice your preferred character PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale includes a decent single player challenge mode where certain objectives can be completed for experience points to unlock cosmetic upgrades.

While not on the same level as Nintendo’s popular brawler PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale offers a nice change of characters to command although is a little light on other content.

Summary:

  • Command your favourite video game characters.
  • Unlock cosmetic upgrades through single player challenges.
  • Play on PS3 or PS Vita with cross play.
  • Various maps inspired by games with environmental hazards to avoid.
  • Build up your AP from attacks to unleashed devastating super moves.
