Offering a basic free to play title Blocksworld features similar customisation and block programming to Roblox. Blocksworld is now available on Windows and Mac. While offering a basic suite of tools and ceasing ongoing development there is sufficient depth to draw out your imagination.
Like other titles in the sandbox genre Blocksworld presents players with a virtual toybox as you explore traditional sandbox mechanics with all the necessary tools to unleash your creativity. Given the sandbox nature what you opt to do with the available tools is ultimately up to players with options to recreate the real world, create your own world or build various devices in the process.
As part of this building adventure Blocksworld provides simple to use building mechanics which ensures it finds itself in the easy to learn while still flexible department. At the foundation of this system is the ability to combine blocks of various sizes, shapes and colours together with further options to extend the size of blocks.
Further block customisation is available by programming basic functions that let you create cars, jets, robots and plenty of other creations if you put your mind to it and allows you to go beyond the basic building of other games. This building interface for coding while offering many elements stays easy to learn so you won’t feel overwhelmed after your first few learning creations.
Outside of the main creation game mode Blocksworld also features a number of puzzles that are a great way to learn more about the mechanics that sit behind the game and designed in such a way to fully utilise the tools. You’ll also receive some nice rewards if you are able to complete the challenges and are great for the less creative players who prefer a game with some guidance or structure rather than having a completely clean slate.
The final piece of the Blocksworld puzzle that will keep you coming back for more is the sharing side of the game that helps build that sense of community. This allows you to browse through other player creations and even play them yourself giving you the opportunity to learn from their creations. If you find something you like you can also give them a like to show your support for their creations. Of course this works the other way as well so fans of showing off their creative talents will love seeing the likes and views for their creations climb the ranks in a similar way to the popular social sandbox title Roblox.
Unfortunately the biggest let down of Blocksworld is the lack of ongoing development with Linden Labs killing the game development far before it reached its peak features. While this does mean some missing functionality it’s most pronounced in the number of bugs and crashes that have crept into the game as time passes.
