My Tribe puts you in real time control of an island paradise as the survival of your intelligent tribe is in your hands as they learn new skills, start families and learn the secrets of the island they inhabit. With a range of great structures to build, areas to explore and real time mechanics that keep your human tribe progressing even when you aren’t playing My Tribe is a challenging management and simulation gaming adventure.

Your goal in this journey is to create a prosperous island escape by advancing your technology, building structures and unlocking the mysteries of the island that My Tribe is set. The game borrows many mechanics and design elements from the exceedingly popular Virtual Villagers franchise such as the real time gameplay and the setting but adds one or two pinches of its own flavour to evolve what is on offer.

Story wise the game follows a group of shipwrecked survivors that land on an unknown island after a catastrophic storm and must use their wits to settle on the island and survive in this new found environment. The best part about My Tribe is the near infinite replay-ability with the option for players to choose from various island layouts at the start of the game that can alter the experience slightly and provide the option to try again after initial success. Once within the game My Tribe feels like a typical strategy management experience as players direct their settlers with a click of the mouse to collect the various resources available on the island.

Turning these acquired resources into new buildings, technological improvements and even potions will be your main focus as you also grow your population to improve your resource generation. Potion making is particularly deep and important to your progress with dozens of potion varieties to discover and mix to help give your survivors a range of bonus effects. These potions are made in the science lab and require players to mix a catalyst, liquid and material together that they have acquired from the island to create either Stardust, Moondust or Gold Relic potions.

While some of these potions only have a visual impact on your survivors by changing their hair colour others summon different resources, change a persons mood or boosts a skill which are vital to your overarching objective on the island. This objective revolves around the 8 mysterious on the island which hide within the grass and sand requiring players to have the appropriate resource, skills or potion to activate the mystery. These also tie in closely to the trophy system of My Tribe with each mystery having a trophy alongside achievements for your tribe people, constructions, exploration and other miscellaneous challenges for a total of 25 trophies to collect.

All of these aforementioned mechanics rely on the appropriate people in your tribe though and thus you’ll often be engaging with the reproduction mechanics of My Tribe. This is due to the effort and planning required to create offspring with the right physical traits for the skills you need that takes an average of physical and mental strength from your tribe and parents. With My Tribe supporting up to 50 living tribespersons at a time the management complexity required quickly escalates to provide ample challenge. Reaching a total tribe of 50 is an achievement in itself though with three potential sources of death in My Tribe being old age, starvation or complete exhaustion.

Summary:

  • Manage your own virtual tribe as they shipwreck on an unknown island.
  • Choose from countless island layouts that will challenge your management abilities in different ways.
  • Brew a large range of potions by combining three island resources for a variety of effects.
  • Play in real time with the game continuing to progress without you or opt to pause the game when you aren’t playing instead.
  • Solve eight mysterious on the island and collect 25 achievement trophies.
