Until Dawn is a PlayStation 4 exclusive addition to the interactive drama genre. With survival and horror elements the game promises a twist filled adventure with many key decisions left in the players hand.

Following the story of eight trapped friends in a remote mountain location things quickly take a turn for the worst when all signs lead to them not being alone. With tensions at an all time high and fear taking hold the decisions in front of you can literally mean the difference between life and death. With a strong cast and stunning visuals Until Dawn truly comes to light.

With multiple game choices to make the direction of the Until Dawn story is strongly in player hands. While the framework is mostly linear the results of certain events are totally at your mercy and can completely alter key plot points.

These decisions centre around moral and ethical choices such as choosing who to save, the game also does a particularly good job of blurring good and bad decisions. Decisions are made even harder through the unique Butterfly Effect game mechanic with seemingly basic choices having consequences throughout the game. This is compounded even further by a restrictive save system that does not allow you to take your choices back.

Gameplay in Until Dawn supports exploration of these different outcomes and has clearly been designed to be played multiple times (in order to see all the games content). A typical playthrough will last just shy of double digit hours.

While of course many decisions will be made during these game hours Until Dawn also has a focus on exploration which not only builds the story but also uncovers helpful clues that may yield fruit further into the storyline. Quick time events are also scattered throughout the Until Dawn adventure.

Summary:

  • Make the tough decisions to guide the story.
  • Enjoy 10hrs of exploration, quick time events and decision making.
  • Combines horror and survival elements into a dramatic story.
  • Butterfly effect and saving restrictions make every decision impactful.
  • PS4 exclusive title.
