If you want a free creative building alternative to Minecraft for your Android or iOS device you might want to consider Worldcraft a mobile game that adopts Minecraft design but adds on a free price tag alongside easy to use multiplayer support.

The textures, interface, controls and general gameplay flow are all very much cloned from Minecraft’s popularity but bundled together under a free price tag so you can’t really complain about what the game offers. Survival in single player is particularly fleshed out with content from zombies to the unique pumpkin heads enemy.

Creatively minded folk will enjoy the game alone or with friends as they place blocks to build castles, monuments, houses, amusement parks and anything else within their endless imagination in the multiplayer game mode. The game isn’t creative only though and also offers a single player survival mode where you will fight off the aforementioned foes and attempt to survive the randomly generated blocky game world before you.

While it might not offer the same level of polish or feature list as some of the paid options, this free game definitely is a good experience and the ratings on the respective app stores back this up with over 500,000 ratings averaging just over 4 stars.

The multiplayer game mode is a key part to these high ratings as not many other free games in the genre offer multiplayer let alone a fully playable singleplayer survival mode as well. Players can also select from a number of block texture packs to further customise your block adventure.

Worldcraft isn’t just your standard Minecraft clone that has been slapped together in a rush, it has been carefully designed to capture the best parts of the sandbox building genre. It’s still a long way short of having all the features but the core gameplay is there and the fact that it is free is too good to pass up.

Summary:

  • Similar to Minecraft and available for iOS and Android for free.
  • Large range of skin and theme packs to customise your experience.
  • Rated 4 stars with over 500,000 ratings.
  • Offers creative mode and survival mode.
  • Multiplayer included for creative mode.
